The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a spring celebration in Washington, D.C., commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington, D.C.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the world’s most celebrated spring events, marking the season’s arrival in one of the most iconic cities—Washington, D.C. Each year, the Festival invites attendees to “Spring It On” by embracing both new experiences and cherished traditions. The Festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington, D.C.—a symbol of enduring friendship between the United States and Japan. Today, this celebration welcomes more than 1.5 million people of all ages, including residents, visitors, dignitaries, families, and friends.
